What Social Media & Social Networking Sites are you using?Views: 523

What are the most important social media & social networking sites in YOUR opinion? What do you use most and why?

Also, I am very interested in tools and services that allow you to post or upload to multiple sites at once, such as TubeMogul and Ping.fm. Do you know of any others?

Penny,

Thanks for bringing TubeMogul to the attention of this network. Otherwise, I never would have known it existed. I did visit the site and it is definitely impressive-looking. But, has that service proven to be of benefit to you? I have posted numerous videos to Youtube. But, I do not see that it really has proven beneficial. Are you somehow creating a "buzz" for the videos you send out through TubeMogul that somehow draws public attention to them?

If you were, for example, to send out a Twitter tweet about your latest video, would you include a link to TubeMogul or Youtube?

If you have yet to consider Squidoo.com as a resource for showcasing videos, take a look at what they are doing. They recently came out with a video module that includes numerous services similar to and including Youtube. What makes Squidoo a good place for videos is the fact that you have the option of creating one lens for each video or one lens for your entire video collection. But, that is not all. You can easily get each lens you create showcased in a large number of Squidoo groups. All this is possible absolutely free.

Penny ..

Twitter is working well for me. ... In just over a week 800+ people have reached out and said "I want to know more about you".

An investment of a couple more hours should double that.

I'm seeing some subscribers with over 60,000 followers and they sure don't have any touble filling their seminars.

"Followers" expect to see something significant, at least few times a week but IMHO; It's worth the effort.

If you haven't discovered Gary Vaynerchuck's take how this new engagement marketing is creaming the establishment .... You should!  It's all here folks

Oh, and about sending a link on Twitter - TubeMogul is an uploading service, so I just put a link to one of the sites that my video was uploaded to.

Penny,

Would you mind sharing an example of a video that via TubeMogul got top ranking on Google? If I understand you correctly, you are using just TubeMogul and not Twitter regarding your videos? Or, are you using TubeMogul and then posting a link on Twitter? I simply want to understand the process here.

An example (at least as of today) is to google "Marketing With Audio And Video". There is a myspace video on the 1st page that I posted via TubeMogul to my (then) account on MySpace (for some reason, they have deleted my account recently). I'm #8.

Penny,

When I checked on Google you had moved up to #7. But, why would your video have been removed from that MySpace page? When I looked at the MySpace page, there were a lot of videos from which to choose. How would anyone know which one was yours? After all, the important thing here is that you specifically can be found. Quite frankly, when I went to that MySpace page, I did not have any idea as to where I should go next. If I cannot easily find your video, isn't that a problem?

Lamar, that's because my video (and my account) were removed. That's why you couldn't find it. Otherwise you would have seen it.

Lamar, I created a screen shot to show you how using Video and posting through sites like TubeMogul get you first page Google rankings.

http://www.CommercialCreationCenter.com/images/MarketingWithAudioAndVideo-1stPageGoogle.jpg

I did the show at 9pm last night, and by midnight, had posted through TubeMogul and Ping.fm. Less than 12 hours later, I'm on the 1st Page of Google twice, and the 2nd page twice as well (that includes my podcast for Marketing With Audio And Video).

So just to show you how quickly it works. Of course, you have to keep it up, or someone else will take your place - but that's why consistency is so important.

Penny,

I tried something on a Google search. I posted a search for "Marketing with Audio and Video Penny." A link about you came up at #3 on the first page. Very informative video about you.

I have a show on Talkshoe myself, but have not used it for awhile. Is Talkshoe now doing video, too? I see that Gmail actually have a video feature. Do you use it? I think this is soon going to get somewhat overwhelming. Why do a podcast when you can just as easily do a videocast?

Nov 28, 2008 3:12 pmre: re: Using Video To Increase Search Engine Rankings (reply to Lamar)#

Penny Haynes
No, TalkShoe doesn't do video. One of my SEO tactics is to create about a 5 minute excerpt from my show or podcast and create a slide show video from it, so I can post it on the video sharing sites - which boost my Google rankings.

You have to do it on a continual basis, because other people take your place if you have popular keywords, but it's worth the battle to me.

Then I put links to the shared video on social networks - you never know who will see.

I don't use Gmail at all - I don't like them being able to see and report on everything in my emails. It creeps me out.

As for only doing videocasts, they aren't as useful as audio podcasts for traveling. People still like to listen to audio podcasts while driving or exercising - times when you can't watch something.

I'm glad you liked that video - I have put a video link to a short introduction to me in my email signature line, in case someone has never met me.

Penny,

You are in Atlanta, right? I used to live in Buckhead. Do you ever do any public speaking and presentations? Across from Lenox Square is the Sheraton-Buckhead. Every Friday at noon there is a luncheon by the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship. Both men and women are encouraged to attend. The first time you attend, lunch is free. And, it's a very nice lunch. I invite you to attend. You can tell the host, Jimmy Rogers, I invited you.

But, here is something that may interest you if you speak and present publicly. Next year, likely in July, there is going to be a major push regarding witricity - the end of the power strip. Plus, more UPnP devices. Together this means you will be able to use devices like Nokia tablets and smart phones to show slide shows on HDTV's without having to physically connect to them. You just connect media server up to the HDTV and you are good-to-go. With the introduction of witricity power mats, no more need for electrical extension cords. Now, since you are big into video you may know a lot more about this than I do. If so, please do not hesitate to enlighten me.

Thanks for the invite, Lamar. I'm actually about 45 minutes north of downtown Atlanta, but I'll keep it in mind.

I'm basically into software technology, and definitely not into hardware, so I'm not into witricity and have no information about that.

My sense is that using TubeMogul & similar services used to deliver copy to multiple social networking sites could harm one's reputation.

The vigilant among us will recognize the duplicate copy and speaking personally;    It leaves a "spamming" taste in my mouth.

Networking sites, while providing great exposure are a job and can easily consume huge blocks of time.

Initial experiments on Twitter have enabled me to develop strategies to build a respectable FriendForce which encourages me to invest more time to leverage the group into a productive and mutually beneficial unit.

Following close to 2,000 Twitters generates a tremendous Tweet flow and much as I adore my friends;   Catching their posts in the main river is not probable and necessitated a second subscription which I use to catch the posts of a handful of Twitters most likely to be of interest.

If you would like me to repost your work to my friends; Who may repost to theirs;    I'd like to feel that you're seeing and ReTweeting (RT) mine.

I'll probably invest some time in building a presence in a couple of professional networking sites but I haven't discovered any real bang by multiple postings from a single click.

BTW ... I've just revamped my Twitter profile. .... If you like it; I'd like to know. If not I'd like to know that, too. ... and why?

I get top Google rankings when I post using TubeMogul. That's enough of a reason for me to continue doing it.

There is no way I can keep up with every social network, so I don't. I keep up with a few, but broadcast to all in hopes that someone I don't know may connect with me.

Everyone has their own way of doing things. This strategy may not be for you. But in the research I'm doing, people get new customers and better search engine ranking by following these steps. In my opinion, it's not always about one-on-one networking - sometimes it's about marketing.

Twitter is what I use the most. It's so easy, and I like interacting that way. It can be a bit overwhelming when you follow a lot of people, and I'm always afraid of missing something. :)

I'm trying to learn how to use Facebook in a more appropriate and effective way, but there are only so many hours in the day!

You don't have to drown in the Twitter stream. .... Just create another account and follow only those you don't want to miss.

The High Volume Twitters don't even try to read their followers tweets.

A few weeks ago I invited many of you to create a new account and follow my locked, alternate @TeddyCanuck which is an account I intended to use for sharing information which we don't want slipping into the main stream. ... (3 times more requests pending than accepted).

These 8 subscribers/followers are all very capable, possibility focused, pro-active and all are folks I'm proud to be associated with but all but two are using their main Twitter ID.

You may get a few ideas from this recent Tweet ..... " 'morning Dahlings! ... Here's "The secret society of Buzz". .. http://budurl.com/abyx "

Penny .... As I read your post;   It seemed that your Twitter information stream was overwhelming and that's easily understandable.

I just have 2 accounts; The one I use for reading has only a dozen I'm following and which are reviewed in under an hour each morning.

In the same hour I can check who has RT'd for me and handle my DM's and replies to my main account.

My answer for handling overwhelm is to minimize the incoming stream. .... At this stage; I'm a publisher rather than a product support service.

As you're aware; There are Twits having 60,000 followers.   They're selling seminar seats from $100 to $10,000 and upwards. (One guy had a substantial waiting list to pay him $5,000 for lunch and a ride in his car and he put 4 passengers in the car.   Details in my Blog) .... They have a strategy for coping.

Today I tacked down a collaboration which will provide daily tweets to 10K; Be assured that while providing my "A" game and close attention to direct inquiries. .... It will not overwhelm me.  The days are over where the business owns me.
