They are so huge, chances of your podcast being found in the sea of podcasts is proportionately smaller. Plus, being on iTunes doesn't help your Google search engine rankings at all, because it is a closed garden.
I always tell my clients that they can post on iTunes, but if they really want to be found, post on public Podcast Directories that will help you be syndicated and therefore increase your search engine rankings. Then, when people search Google, they can find you there as well.
