For everyone in Podcaster Central, I would just like to know who is and is not podcasting right now. I know that I am not podcasting all of the shows I started with, due to time restraints, and have changed the frequency of those I continue to podcast.

So for those of you who joined Podcaster Central to learn about podcasting, but haven't yet tried it, please let me know who you are, and why you haven't started podcasting yet. What has stopped you?

For those of you who were already podcasting when you joined Podcaster Central, are you podcasting the same shows with which you started, have you stopped any of them or altered their content or frequency?

Why are you podcasting? What results are you trying to achieve with your podcast? Are you achieving those results?

If you can take a moment and let us all know who you are and what you are doing, it would be a great re-connection for us all.

Our Show:
The Sonic Society

How Long Podcasted?:
Three years

Hosts:
Jack Ward and Shannon Hilchie

Content:
The very best the Internet can offer in a wide assortment of Audio Drama series from the Aughts (Year 2000 onwards).

Goals:
1. To make people aware of the variety and vibrancy of Audio Drama in the modern age.
2. To encourage new folks to take trips into the world of audio theatre- writing, acting, and producing
3. To build a viable marketplace for Audio Drama producers and companies.

Quality Check:
We have grown immensely in the past three years from a handful of listeners to well over 16,000 downloads a month.
We've inspired at least a half dozen new production houses and a new exciting fan board of the genre and now our official forum www.audiodramatalk.com

We're working steadily on our third goal this year as we would like to start a new podcast (while maintaining the old one) called "Sonic Gold" in which users can pay 19.95 a year for over 45 weeks of hour long audio drama they couldn't pay for if they spent 500 dollars.
Our sweet spot goal is 1,000 subscribers and this is our challenge. Getting that many users to buy in.

Would love any suggestions!
Thanks!
Jack

I am podcasting the same two shows as when I joined Ryze.

Eclectic Mix - has always been released on Saturday and never missed a week. I have recently started inserting an occasional mid-week show when I learn that an artist I have featured has a new release.

One Minute How-To - varies from two to three times a week (more often the former), depending on the frequency I am able to find guests.

Why are you podcasting?

Eclectic Mix - Since college (30+ years ago) I have shared music I loved with my friends. This podcast allows me to share this music with anyone in the world.

One Minute How-To - I enjoy learning things and sharing interesting information with people. This show is a platform for doing this.

What results are you trying to achieve with your podcast?

Have fun.

Are you achieving those results?

Absolutely, when I don't then I will quit.

Cheers -

george

George, great point! If you don't enjoy it, don't do it.

The only podcast I now continue to do on a relatively regular basis, out of the 5 or so I was doing, is http://www.BrainStormBusinessPodcast.com.

And why do I still do it? Because it's a labor of love - I love finding out about new business technology and strategies, and I love brainstorming about how it can be used for my own business (and possibly others). I really don't care if I have 10 or 10,000 listeners, because I like to study this stuff for myself. I just really don't take as much time to study it as I really want to - the podcast forces me to do what I love.

I keep http://www.ComedyClipOfTheWeek.com going, but I'm really just recycling older comedy from about 2 years ago, since I don't have the time to find new, clean audio comedy.

http://www.WordsForTheWeek.com was one I had handed off to someone else to run, and after a year, she decided she couldn't do it any more. I did one today for the first time in a while, but I just don't have the time.

Podcasting all of them helped me to get all of my businesses very high Google rankings, so they achieved what I wanted them to do. Now, however, I'm so busy with business projects, I find that podcasting becomes the red-headed step-child that gets the last of my time and energy.

I also would like to move more into video podcasting, which will take more time if I do what I want to do, but I'm not sure that it would be as portable as audio podcasts (you can listen to those while you drive or exercise, which is not necessarily the case with video).

Anyone else experiencing similar thoughts or feelings?

Thanks for the question, Penny.

From poking around Yours Jack's & George's links; I discovered some valuable resources. (Fabulous voice, George).

I never podcasted per se but know there's a zillion folks with A/V enabled portable devices the question "How can I" became a constant focus.

When I discovered a someone had made a movie about a stale hamburger that's had a million views in a year; I just knew I needed some of that. View here.

... and that crazy dancing man became so famous that he's now receiving huge speaking fees.

So while not strictly podcasting: I have jumped in and created a broadcasting property.

The generous assistance from this and other forums has been a tremendous help.

I'm excited about the possibilities in delivering A/V content. The numbers are too huge to ignore.

Thanks for the question, Penny.

P.S. Achieving results? Too early but serious numbers are available. The answer needed is: "How"?

Yes, I was podcasting when I joined Podcaster Central. Views from the Coop started as a tech show for consumers. The format has changed, though. At first, I was podcasting by posting the audio from a local call-in weekly radio show I co-hosted. I left the radio show and continued podcasting via a web-based conference room with a different co-host. That show was interactive much like the radio show since I had an online audience. My online co-host left and for awhile, I tried hosting alone, but I didn't really enjoy it and I also lost my complimentary room. I went BACK on the radio to replace the host of the show I'd previously co-hosted with when he retired, so I started posting audio from that radio show. After about 8 months, the original host un-retired and I gave him back his radio timeslot and started looking for a new online co-host. I found one and together, we started trying out various methods of recording our shows. We used Free Conference Call for awhile (and still do on occasion), then moved to Blog Talk Radio where we still do a bi-monthly show. We do like to do our live shows interactively and can do that with both Free Conference Call and Blog Talk Radio.

With the addition of my new co-host, the show moved from just providing tech information for consumers to providing information for the business community, too. I have also been a guest co-host with a couple of my fellow podcasters who also do tech shows. One of them is even a Mac chick!

I'd like to monetize my podcast, but that's not really the goal. I enjoy providing helpful tech information and trying out new products or reviewing new tech books. We participate in revenue sharing programs with the Tech Podcasts Network and with Blog Talk Radio.

Wow, that was more than just a moment!

Paige said .... (Snipped) "I'd like to monetize my podcast, but that's not really the goal."

Paige.

I go to sleep listening to Coasttocoastam and interviewees frequently have a product available which George validates at approriate intervals and give the guest ample opportunity to showcase his product.

A question I have for you.     What's your viral or other strategy to create 'buzz' about your 'cast?

Locally; A semi targetted radio station disects the previous night's hockey game and turns the game into 3 hrs of prattle next day.

I'm a newbie but it seems to me that 'buzz' is a must-have component for cranking up the numbers and make monetizing, by adding a product or two, realistic.

Heck! If I sat in on your 'cast & enjoyed it; I'd be blathering on about my experience at an early opportunity.    (AKA Unsolicited testimonial).
