Can I use popular music on my pages? | Views: 501 |

Teddy Towncrier | | Hi folks.
I frequently use music to make page visitors' experience more enjoyable and create the desired ambiance.
At the back of my mind is the idea that I can use a few seconds of popular music on my pages without running into copyright issues.
I'd appreciate your insights into this.
Thanks in advance.

Angelo Cerase | | Since I assume the music you mean is copyrighted, then no, you can't.
I suggest you look into Podsafe music. You may find something you like, and I'm sure some (if not most) would not mind you using a portion of their song(s) on your website. Of course, you should check to see what the requirements are for the particular song you want to use. And when in doubt, just send the band an email asking them.
Plus, using Podsafe music has the advantage of giving a fledging band some exposure.

But what if I talk over it? NO

Check out music.podshow.com
It is made to give musicians exposure and podcaster FREE content. Its not that there isn't any good music on the radio, its that there is PLENTY of GREAT MUSIC that never HAS A CHANCE TO BE HEARD.
Sure there are also some really bad songs, but its free. There are other resources for podsafe music listed at the School of Podcasting.

Teddy Towncrier | | Thanks folks! For your generous assistance with my earlier request.
Here's another idea in the same vein ...
I have a PVR card in one of our units and can capture some great pics of people, events, vistas etc.
I'm wondering if it's OK to use these pictures (Primarily of stars, politicians, YouTube profiles and well recognized personalities). on web pages.
I sense I may be pushing the envelope a bit by using these pics.
Your wisdoms on this issue also greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Paige Eissinger | | Teddy, you can find some GREAT podsafe music by independent artists on IODA Promonet. All you have to do to use the music is post some HTML on your page that gives information on where you can buy that particular artists music. You have to register to become a member but you get access to a variety of music that the artists are happy to have you play on your blog or podcast. I use music from Promonet for every podcast I do.

Maria Marsala | | You can use music, although I'm not sure how popular. I have purchased Royalty Free Music in the past.
I'm pretty sure I have posted the resources available that I found at http://www.TheResourceQueen.comPrivate Reply to Maria Marsala |
