The winner of the monthly contest will win a MasterCard with $500 on it!
However, I do not want this to be a "whoever has the most toys wins" type of contest. If you are already a popular podcaster, you can't qualify for this contest. This is an underdog contest that allows everyday podcasters to shine and be in the spotlight.
We will name our first winner at the Online International Podcasting Expo, April 20-21, 2007.
What I need is to come up with the qualifications and the rules, as well as the best process to collect "votes" and determine the winner. ANY IDEAS????
Post your ideas here, and hopefully, as a group, we will come up with a great podcast contest that really rewards quality and original podcasts, instead of just featuring podcasts that are already well-known.

This is interesting. I have a range of subscribers from 70-1500 subscribers, but compared to Leo Laporte I'm nothing.
The other thing (and God Help You), I used to run a site www.battlingbands.com that I closed down. I used 6 different voting scripts and eventually they all got hacked. Even yahoo, excite had polls and such. With a 500 prize, there will be cheating I'm sure (Money brings out the worst in people).
The problem is there are hardly any quantifiable items. Its all subjective. Best audio, most creative... hmmmm.

That's why I have turned to my fellow podcasters. How can we make this happen?
I thought about a theme, as in July, during the Women's Podcasting Expo, having the best Women's Podcast, and in October, during the Religious Podcasting Expo, having the best religious podcast, and in January, for the BizPodExpo, having the best Business Podcast. So we could pick different genres for different months, mixing it up a bit.
We could
have a write in for nominations (and podcasters can nominate their own show),
then create a mixed feed of the latest shows by those podcasters (I can do that with our podcast directories),
and receive "reviews" of those podcasts by listeners - what they like and what they think could be done better - in the comments section. This way, there can be constructive criticism involved so podcasters can make their podcasts better. Perhaps we could use Carter Harkins' CrowdAbout.Us site, where people can put comments (audio, video and text) directly into different portions of the podcast?
Then we could do a final vote here on the Ryze Network, saying which one we vote for and why. We would check out anyone new voting on the Network to make sure they are a real person and not a duplicate or fake. Then make the final determination from here.
I know this is subjective, but all contests like this are. I don't want it skewed by someone getting tons of votes because they have lots of friends on MySpace or wherever - I want them to win because they were reviewed by a bunch of other podcasters who can appreciate the time and effort that continual content creation and podcast production involves.
What do you guys think?

We are going to work out the details, but Podcasting News will advertise it, 1st Podcast Publishing will organize and administrate it, and www.revolutionwealthtv.com is the sponsor that will provide a $500 prize every month!
If you are interested in being a judge (we hope to have enough people to have a rotating panel every month), then please let me know here on this thread.
