Want to share a new tool I thought you could useViews: 540

Hey there!

I recently learned about a new site and thought I'd pass on the info. The site is called Podclass. You can set up courses at no charge. There's never a charge for free courses. You can offer paid courses and then a percentage commission is charged - but only when students enroll.

It's new to me so I don't have a whole lot of info, but it seems pretty straight forward. I've set up a free class to test it out.

The site is http://www.podclass.com

You can view my profile at http://www.podclass.com/irresistiblewoman

You can view my course at http://www.podclass.com/irresistiblewoman/190

That will give you an idea of what you can do.

You can incorporate audio and video as well as text.

You can choose to allow others to opt-in to receive additional info for your course. You can communicate with them right on the site. It's all built into the system.

Be sure to read the terms for what you can and can't do. I think it's pretty cool. It's a simple way to teach and present yourself as an expert. It's also a great to way to reach others.

Want to know another cool feature? For your paid courses you can opt-in to use their built in affiliate program. You can open it up to registered students only or all members of Podclass.

Check it out. :) The site is http://www.podclass.com

Thanks for bringing us this, Christina.

It's a great concept that lets anyone slip into broadcasting with a minimum of fuss.

Although at the moment, I'm not motivated to become a fantastic woman; There are a couple of other broadcasts that caught my eye.

Bestest.

Cristina,

I went and took a look at Podclass.com, but did not sign up. I currently use Talkshoe.com. Can you load a program from Talkshoe up on Podclass.com? In other words, will Podclass take a previously recorded file? Or, does everything need to be recorded live on Podclass.com - be it audio or video?

Hi Lamar,

Yes, you can upload audio and video from anywhere. I didn't see any restrictions on that. Podclass doesn't even have the capability to record on their site. So it's a great way to share your message on another site (from Talkshoe to Podclass) at no cost.

Christina,

Correct me if I am mistaken here, but basically what Podclass is doing is providing the public with FREE web server space for audio and video presentations that are recorded elsewhere? You do not do "live" presentations on Podclass? Everything here is pre-recorded elsewhere? I do not see that as a major problem. I simply want to understand what is actually being offered. I am a little confused at this point. Please do not hesitate to enlighten me.

Hi Lamar,

I'm sorry for the delay in replying. I could have sworn that I had already responded. Odd...

You're correct that everything on Podclass is pre-recorded elsewhere. They do not have a recording feature.

What is being offered is a platform for sharing your knowledge with others via free or paid courses. They have an autoresponder, forum, chat, wiki and opt-in feature entirely built into the system.

It costs you nothing to offer a free course and paid courses (courses you offer for a fee) can integrate with a built in affiliate program. The only time a fee comes in is if you have students for a paid course for which Podclass takes a commission.

It's another way to get your info to people who are actively looking to learn something. It's a way to build your list and doesn't necessarily require much of your time after you set it up once, should you work it that way. You can schedule a live chat through their chat interface and meet your students at a specified time.

For that matter you could use your own conference line for live discussions and supplement with content on Podclass.

There are a lot of options, Lamar. It just depends on how you want to use the service if you want to use it at all. I think it's a good way to share who you are, what you know and what you can do for others who may not find you otherwise.

I hope you're having a great weekend. :)

Christina,

I agree with you, Podclass is a great site. I just was not sure what to do with it and how to proceed. I signed up for a free course that was immediately available. There are many like that on Podclass. This particular course was nothing but text and links. So, I ended up calling the San Diego office of the company. Come to find out the company plans to produce videos to show the public how to make the most of their service. Podclass is a work in progress. I feel they are just getting started. But, I also feel they have tapped into something that more and more of the general public are going to pursue.

To me, Podclass is something of a combination of Squidoo, Talkshoe, and Ryze. It is not just a place to take or teach online classes. It is just as much a place for business networking (just like Ryze).

I definitely agree. It is in beta and they're definitely still working out the kinks and such. It's tiny, but you can see the gray "Beta" above their logo.

I think some "teachers" don't know what to do with their courses. For example I have text, audio and assignments in mine. I enrolled in three courses and one doesn't begin until Monday. However the other two have been active for quite some time, but have no content. That's what I mean about them appearing to not know what to do.

If you'd like, you can enroll in my course just to see how I set mine up. Maybe that will give you an idea of what the inside of a course looks like. :) You can drop the course easily from your account as well.

Paige,

I went to listen to your program with Gary Gil. Rather than listen to the podcast, I ended up listening to a commercial and then music rather than Gary. How much of a lead-in does one have to listen to before the actual program begins?
