Obviously, people who are into podcasting are using their computer to record audio files and then allowing those files to be created into website links that are posted online. But, are you still blogging the old-fashioned way - typing out your message? Did you know it is possible to simply call a toll-free line, speak your message for your blog and update your typewritten blog that way? No, I am not talking about using some kind of voice-recognition software. I am talking about someone actually transcribing your message for you and placing it on your blog for you.

Now, I must confess I have yet to actually do this myself. But, I understand it is in fact possible through a FREE service called simply Jott. Has anyone here used this service to update a blog simply by talking?

I have tested Jott. Based on these tests, I would not rely on it for posting to my blog. It would yield too many errors, many of which are laughable.

Donna,

I too have experienced errors with Jott, when leaving myself or someone else a message. But, this was not using the blogging feature. I believe this is a different process., When you are leaving a normal Jott message you have a limited time period to leave your message. I do not believe that is the case when you are updating your blog. Do you know otherwise?

I don't know, but I wonder how the technology would be different (better) just because it's going to a blog??

While I completely agree that having a podcast or audio file within your blog / website / whatever it is you do is great for your audience, don't forget that Search Engines can't read audio files.

So if you're looking to get your audio file indexed with the search engines you must do it by typing out the text. Personally, I like to have both available so that the person can listen & read and I also make the search engines happy by having something there that they can index.

I can't wait for the day when that's possible but right now, it isn't so just keep that in mind if you're trying to grow a business online.

Warmly, Kristine Wirth

Kristine,

You need to take a look at Jott. You call a toll-free number and leave a message. That message is transferred into written text by a real person typing. So, when we refer to using an audio message to update a blog, we are not talking about adding an audio file. We are talking about adding text. Therefore, yes, it is indexed by the search engines. However, you did not have to type the text yourself. Someone else did that for you...for FREE! All you had to do was talk.
