Penny,
I can really relate to what you are saying. I did the Olympic Town event for Special Olympics-Georgia Summer Games at Emory University four years in a row. No way would that have ever been possible with just one or two people. It takes a team.
At least in a metropolitan city like Atlanta, people are more prone to working together as you have a larger pool of people from which to choose from. Out here in rural California - especially in a bedroom community - the pool of people for community events is extremely small. Many folks simply do not have the time because they have long commutes to and from work outside the county. In addition, there are people around here that simply do not understand the importance of mutual collaboration and working together.
Here we have a shopping center grand opening coming up on October 18th and even some of the merchants in the shopping center are refusing to be involved with the activity. Yet, I have been able to get Ryzers from around the world to help me create a little buzz for the activity.
